Article about Beehive Homes of Santa Fe

For the Elderly, There's No Place Like a Bee Hive Homes

Bee Hive Homes is the newest assisted-living facility in Santa Fe. Like Santa Fe, Bee Hive Homes is a unique place to live. The company got its start in 1987 when Twayne Walker, company founder and a builder by trade, couldn't find an acceptable place for his elderly mother to live. Her needs had surpassed his ability to care for her. At that time, many assisted-living facilities did not provide a pleasant atmosphere where residents could live happily. To make matters worse, the cost of these facilities was prohibitive for many of the elderly and their families.

With few, if any, choices available, Walker built an assisted-living home for his mother with the innovative idea that the elderly deserve a clean and comfortable family-type setting at an affordable price when they reach a point in their lives where they need assisted living care. During the construction phase of Walker's first assisted-living home, there was so much interest shown by potential residents that many of them were ready to move in as soon as it was completed.

Almost 25 years after the first home was built, Bee Hive Homes now has facilities in twelve states. "We provide the comforts of home, with loving caregivers, home-cooked meals, and facilities designed to expand the independence of our residents. You can feel peace of mind with your mother or father or other family member in a Bee Hive Home, knowing they are comfortable and well cared for. We encourage family participation and often get to know our residents' families and friends almost as well as our own," said Jay Manning, owner and sub-franchisor of homes throughout Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.

A Bee Hive Home is a planned environment, allowing for ten to twenty residents to enjoy a quality of lifestyle with group association, yet still offering the utmost in privacy with individual bedrooms and at least a half bath. Most importantly, Bee Hive Homes offers 24-hour supervision with exceptional staff members, trained in quality geriatric care, but committed to a home and family environment. "Our residents deserve to feel important and valued so we provide activities that help them to thrive and enjoy life such as exercise and yoga, art classes, musical events, annual parties and picnics. We strongly encourage participation from schools and churches, and other community organizations. At Bee Hive Homes we really do strive to be the next best place to home," added Manning.

64th Wedding Anniversay @ Beehive Village

We had a wonderful celebration with Steve and Marny Cooper who celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary this past week at the Beehive Village in Albuquerque. What an awesome event to be a part of. Angel, the administrator at this location, cooked them a gourmet meal which they enjoyed together in a romantic atmosphere. We want to congratulate Steve and Marny on this momentous occasion.
They also enjoyed lunch with family and celebrated with an anniversary cake.

Ralph's Auto Corner & Mary Ann's Gardening Tips

Flat tires and blow-outs are the most common; -Blow-outs often occur because of under inflated tires as well as no attendance to leaks, if tires run underinflated for some distance they become so hot AND they disintegrate, this can cause extensive damage to your wheel, and lots of body work! Tires can loose 1-psi per month or more. PSI stands for pressure in tires. I had a neighbor who delivered papers so lots of driving he had tried every brand of tires on the market, and found that the Bridgestone were the best on the market. SO REMEMBER, check your tire pressure often, check your owners Manuel for the amount your car tires need. Proper maintenance of tires will prolong the life of your tires.

according to Eileen Riccon and Mary Ann Saavedra, Prune bushes in the fall around September to October for healthy growth in the springtime. You have to like your flowers and plants, talk to them I know that sounds funny but I believe it does help, touch your plants, they need their foliage touched. Have a good gardening month. Check next month for our next gardening tips.
